Ampex 350 Mic/Line Preamp Pair

Want to make your vocals sound huge? A pair of Ampex tube preamps will make Barry White jealous. This classic American design from the 1950s was originally built as a tape machine preamplifier, for which Ampex are well known.

Half a century later our techs have given these units nothing short of a second wind. We have modified the preamps to bring them to the verge of perfection! Both units have been re-capped and re-wired, 48V phantom power supply and indicator were added to cater for all studio needs.

To make the operation straightforward and easy and to fit the new purpose, we have removed the unnecessary stages and functions, but what is left, is done to the best possible standard.

The Input Transfer switch was modded to give three new options:

- Original Mic input signal
- Input U-pad -20dB
- Input U-pad -40dB (line in)

Another modification was an Input transformer loading mod. This will lower the input signal and make the response more linear and usable for both Line and Mic applications.

The Line Amp stage has been modded to give less gain and more linear response over the signal spectrum.

Output line was terminated to 600 ohm. This allows the unit perform well with modern equipment. Modern parts were used to revitalise the Power supply and expand its lifespan.

To keep the front panel aesthetics complete, we have changed the purpose of several knobs and swithes, so in the end, the units controls are:

- Phantom On/Off
- Input Transfer switch now serves as an Input U-PAD
- Record Level controls the GAIN
- input level VU meter
- Power On/Off

The units are completely reborn and in excellent cosmetic and technical condition, ready to rock!

The preamps are equipped with an American-style power cable and comes with original 110V PSU and an external 240V power converter.
