This is a non functioning unit. Take on the challenge and repair it yourself, use it for parts, or use it to cover an empty space in your rack!
The SC2.2v4, part of Joe Meek's range of outboard gear, was designed by British engineer Ted Fletcher. Though made in small numbers, it has maintained its reputation. It is a late, lower-cost version of the SC range, featuring the renowned "Dark Mode" which affects release characteristic.
Compression is produced through optical devices, in particular Light Dependent Resistors (LDRs or Optos), notable for their smooth response time. While I anticipated a dramatic, highly-coloured sound, the unit was quite subtle and well-behaved.
Digging deeper, however, reveals its wide range of capabilities. Unlike VCA compressors, where ratios provide subtle, progressive changes, the Joe Meek slope control gives five distinct sounds. The SC2.2 is characterful and can deliver everything from full-blown pumping compression to dense, swampy mix bus glue - an excellent counter to conventional VCA one-trick ponies.
This SC2.2v4 is the Fletcher Electroacoustics Ltd. manufactured unit, serial no: (21)1014776.
PSU works on 230V, EU power cord included.
NB! Bypass switch (2x9p), input and output pots (S-10k-L-Stepped) of this unit are very noisy. Needs custom made pots that are not available.
